When it was announced earlier this year that the BBC had lost the live rights for The Open Golf (from 2017) to Sky Sports there was a tinge of sadness for the traditionalists.  It’s literally one of the very few mammoth sporting events that remain on terrestrial (free-to-air) TV in the UK; and whilst the BBC will retain highlights in 2017, the next two installments of the world’s most historic golf major will have that added touch of nostalgia.

For 2015 we have a setting famed for its subtleties and nuances, the Old Course at St Andrews paradoxically produces champions who bludgeon their way to the Claret Jug. The Open will be shown live on BBC TV and the BBC Sport website from Thursday 16th until Sunday 19th July.

With defending champion Rory McIlroy unable to defend the title through injury all eyes will be on Jordan Spieth to see if he can claim his third successive major and push towards an unheralded grand slam.  Tiger Woods continues to flounder but his record at his favourite course of St. Andrews is phenomenal; winning twice previously and perhaps this may well be the week that the old magic returns.

Additionally Louis Oosthuizen who won at St. Andrews in 2010 is returning to form and previous winners at the Home of Golf, Nick Faldo and John Daly are also in the field.  Justin Rose is the big hope for a British winner.

The easiest ways to watch The Open live from from anywhere in the world…

If you try watch BBC Sport in English-speaking countries such as Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, Spain, France, Canary Islands, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar, New Zealand,  Turkey, Saudi Arabia, or Dubai you will get a Geo block error. To bypass this and watch all content for all you need is a a Proxy, VPN or VPN Router to overcome location restrictions that would otherwise block you from watching BBC Live Streaming and all other UK TV services.

Get yourself a UK VPN or Proxy Server from Liberty Shield for live golf streaming.

Furthermore BBC Sport and BBC iPlayer aren’t the only geographically-censored streaming services a VPN or Proxy will allow you to access.  Other UK services like ITV Player, 4OD, SkyGo and Now TV are available, and with the option to switch to our USA service whenever you like, you can access Hulu, HBO GO, Netflix and Pandora – essentially you can access international content from virtually anywhere!

For users in the USA (or with a USA IP address available from Liberty Shield VPN and Proxy) we can confirm that The British Open Golf 2015 will also be carried on ESPN and ESPN2. That’s great if you have a cable or satellite login but if not then consider viewing ESPN through Sling TV.
