Premier League VPN 2020-21 Season – Match Week 38 Preview with Liberty Shield VPN

The Premier League reaches its climax on Sunday, with European places all that remains to be decided. Premier League matches are shown by pay-TV broadcasters Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and with match highlights available free on BBC Sport with Match of the Day. Need a Premier League VPN?

It’s the final day of the Premier League season and while most of the games will be played with nothing on the line, there are a still a few issues to resolve. Manchester City will finish top, with Manchester United in second. Sheffield United, West Brom and Fulham will be relegated, while Burnley, Southampton, Brighton, Newcastle and Crystal Palace survive another season. Aston Villa and Leeds will be pleased with their seasons, but Wolves, Arsenal and Everton will not. Tottenham won’t be happy but could still make it into the Europa League, but will need West Ham to lose to Brighton while they would need to win against Leicester. The Hammers should be thrilled regardless of whether they end up in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League. Fun Fact: Premier League VPN is one of the most searched phrases on Google.

Our Premier League VPN articles are brought to you in partnership with EPL Index, and Dave Hendrick – host of the Two Footed Podcast, offering FREE podcasts to football fans.

The big question that remains unanswered is who will join Manchester City and Manchester United in the top four and earn a spot in next season’s Champions League. Chelsea currently sit third, one point ahead of Liverpool and Leicester who are separated only by Liverpool’s superior goal difference. Any two of the three could qualify, with all three facing difficult games this weekend.

With these the most meaningful games of the weekend, they are the ones we’ve decided to preview this week.

Leicester spent the first 36 weeks of the season in the top four. They have spent 68 of the past 74 weeks in the top four and yet they failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and barring a slip up by Chelsea or Liverpool they will once again fail, having appeared nailed on just weeks ago. To snatch Europa League football from the jaws of the Champions League for a second straight season is not a good look and while this season’s collapse hasn’t been as bad as last season’s, and they do have the FA Cup sitting proudly in their trophy cabinet as a consolation, it does raise question marks over Brendan Rodgers and his team in terms of having the mental toughness to go the distance.

Leicester have done very well to overcome injury issues for most of the season but recent injuries to James Justin and Harvey Barnes have had a massive effect on the team, though the form of Kelechi Iheanacho has gone a long way towards keeping them on track. Recent defeats to West Ham and Newcastle were disappointing, as was the draw against 10 man Southampton. Seventeen points, earned via five wins and two draws, is a disappointing return from the last twelve games and suggests at a lack of focus, as well as a need for more squad depth. This Leicester squad is immensely talented, with good depth in certain areas, but does need reinforcements. With the seasons suffered by Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal, as well as Chelsea spending half a season managed by Frank Lampard, it was wide open for Leicester to claim a top four spot. They may not get a better chance.

James Justin and Harvey Barnes are ruled out while Rodgers has said Jonny Evans is unlikely to feature. Cengiz Under is a doubt but would be unlikely to feature anyway as his disappointing loan spell from Roma comes to an end.

Speaking of a lack of mental toughness, Tottenham have endured another very disappointing campaign and look set to be confined to a season in the new Europa Conference League. On the one hand, they would likely be favourites to win it but I’m not sure that’s the type of silverware Harry Kane craves. Kane is, of course, subject to massive speculation regarding where his future may lie for next season and beyond. Both Manchester clubs, along with Chelsea and PSG, are rumoured to have interest and Spurs could face a battle to hold on to their talisman but will hope that his price tag proves prohibitive, even for the mega-rich, in this Covid economy. Tottenham have a lot of questions to address this summer outside of Kane. They need to find their next manager, and they badly need to appoint a Sporting Director. It would be easier to appoint the calibre of people they want with Europa League football to offer but that seems unlikely. Still, they have pride to play for and Kane will want to win the Golden Boot so expect Spurs to take the game to Leicester.

Ben Davies is ruled out for Tottenham while Japhet Tanganga is a major doubt after suffering an injury in the midweek defeat to Aston Villa.

Chelsea’s turnaround under Thomas Tuchel as remarkable but whether or not it has been a success remains to be seen. They lost the FA Cup final to Leicester, their third FA Cup final defeat in five years, they are still to play the Champions League final which they will be underdogs in, and they have not yet secured Champions League football for next season. They do have two bites at that last apple, because the Champions League winners automatically gain entry to next years competition but should they finish 5th and lose that final then Thomas Tuchel could well go from the verge of a new contract to a manager on the hot seat.

Villa will finish 11th this season, probably slightly below where they had hoped for but a massively improvement on their “skin of the teeth” survival in 17th last time around. With ambitious owners who possess deep pockets, Villa are on an upward trajectory and should be expected to be ambitious and aggressive in the transfer market this coming summer. Dean Smith will likely find himself under a bit more pressure to deliver a challenge for European football next season but there can be no arguments made against his tenure in charge being a runaway success thus far. From mid-table in the Championship and going nowhere to mid-table in the Premier League and ascending, in 31 months. It’s impressive, but Villa aren’t just happy to be in the Premier League. There’s aims of returning the club to it’s past glory. With a big fanbase already behind the club, there’s little doubt that if they do things properly over the next few years they could well raise themselves to the level of Tottenham, who have only really overtaken Villa in terms of “size” in the last 10 to 15 years.

Trezeguet, Morgan Sanson and Matty Cash are out of this one through injury, while Ross Barkley is unable to play against his parent club.

Chelsea’s mission on Sunday is very very simple. Win the game. Do that and nothing that happens anywhere else matters as far as the league table goes. A win would put Chelsea on 70 points, one more than either Liverpool or Leicester can get. If Leicester fail to win then Chelsea’s result isn’t important as they have a goal difference advantage over the Foxes. If Leicester win, but Liverpool draw then Chelsea need to take at a point to secure 4th. The easiest way for Chelsea to avoid any confusion is to go to Villa Park and win. Their run under Thomas Tuchel has been hugely impressive and what seemed like a lost season under Lampard has been drastically turned around. While they will have one eye on next weekend’s Champions League final, Tuchel will want to go into the game on a high and securing a top four finish this weekend will do just that.

Andreas Christenson and Ngolo Kante are expected to miss out for Chelsea while Kai Havertz faces a late fitness test.

⚽ Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

After the season they have had, considering who they currently have playing at centre back, it is a miracle that Liverpool are still in the mix for top four let alone in control of their own destiny. Injuries have spoiled their chances of defending the title they won last season but the Reds will have looked at the rest of league and not been overly impressed by what any other team has done. They will feel that by getting back Virgil Van Dijk alone, they will immediately become title favourites for next season. The season has been a nightmare on a professional, and personal, level for Jurgen Klopp who likely can’t wait for Monday morning so that he can take some time to relax and recover.

The Reds situation is clear, if they beat Palace 1-0 then Leicester will have to beat Spurs by five goals to catch them on goal difference. 2-0, and Leicester will need to win by six, and so on and so forth. It makes it very straight forward. Their recent run of seven wins from their last nine games has been unexpected but well deserved. They have been the better team in all nine games and should really have won all nine and sown up top four already. Sloppiness again Leeds and Newcastle cost them a combined four points and if they had closed out those games they’d be heading into this one eyeing second place. That speaks volumes of the calibre of the Premier League this season but gives Liverpool real hope for what next season can bring. Thiago Alcantara has been sensational since the international break and should be even better next season. Thiago and Fabinho have formed a brilliant midfield partnership that should flourish next season with Van Dijk restored behind them. After taking 23 points from their last 27 available, it would be a shame if they let this slip now. They’ve done the hard part and overhauled Leicester, now they just need to finish the job.

Liverpool will be without Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ozan Kabak, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Ben Davies, while Diogo Jota is expected to miss out as well with a foot issue.

Roy Hodgson’s last game as Crystal Palace manager, and potential his last game as a football manager, will be at the scene of the biggest failure of his managerial career. Hodgson’s time as Liverpool manager went spectacularly badly and he was fired after just six months in a job he should never have been given. Hodgson has gone on to manager West Brom, England and Crystal Palace to varying levels of mediocrity since and will walk away from the Eagles at the ripe old age of 73. Hodgson’s football is football of a past era and Palace want to move forward. They have 16 players out of contract this summer and face a massive rebuild this summer. A new manager will be needed, and most of a new squad. The recent injury blow, with Eberechi Eze ruled out for likely up to a year with a torn achilles tendon, makes it an even harder job and they will of course face the usual speculation over the future of Wilf Zaha. Palace have looked like a team who just want the season to end for some time and may well turn up in body if not in spirit on Sunday.

Palace have been hit almost as hard as Liverpool by the injury plague this season. Eze, Scott Dann, Mamadou Sakho, Nathan Ferguson, Conor Wickham, and James McArthur will also miss out while Tyrick Mitchell, Christian Benteke and Luka Milivojevic are all doubts.
